Casement vs Sliding Windows: Which Is Right for You?

Two of our most popular systems are the Lumia 60 Casement Series and the Lumia 60/80 Sliding Series. Both are premium uPVC, but they behave very differently. Here is how to pick.

Casement windows: maximum seal and airflow

Casements swing open like a door on side hinges. Because the sash presses into the frame with multi-point hermetic locking, they offer the tightest seal and the best acoustic and thermal performance, blocking noise up to 40dB. They also open fully for maximum ventilation.

  • Best for: bedrooms, study rooms and any room facing noise or weather.
  • Strengths: superior sealing, soundproofing and full airflow.
  • Consider: the sash needs clear space to swing open.

Sliding windows: sleek, space-saving glass

Sliding systems glide horizontally on steel-reinforced tracks with 1.8 to 2.2mm wall gauges and dual-gasket weatherseals. They maximise glass area and never intrude into the room, making them ideal where space is tight.

  • Best for: living rooms, balconies and large openings with great views.
  • Strengths: no swing space needed, large uninterrupted glass, insect-screen support.
  • Consider: only half the opening ventilates at a time.
A simple rule: casements for sealing and silence, sliders for views and space.
